Time to Paint the Blue Bird!! ~ 926 Turquoise Street

4 Mar

At long last, we are finally ready to paint the wall at 926 Turquoise!  The tortoise will be coming down to make room for Gloria’s Blue Bird.  Gloria will get started this Friday and will be around all weekend.

Come by for a chance to meet Gloria and watch her work.  Urban Art Farm will be hanging out and Schaffer Visuals will be filming the process.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped us move this project forward. This is truly a community project and we could not have got this far without your help.

Scaffolding is up on the French Gourmet!

6 Jul

Michel Malecot, owner of The French Gourmet, needed to repaint the western wall of his restaurant.  Rather than simply applying a fresh coat of paint, he has asked Gloria Muriel to develop a mural for this wall.  The scaffolding is up, and she expects to start painting next week!  They are working on the concept and we will update you once they decide on an idea for this space.  Go Gloria!

Hope to see you 7.11.12 at Table 926!

A night at Table 926 with Urban Art Farm 7.11.12

25 Jun

Executive Chef and Owner, Matt Richmond, and GM Gavin Cordes have graciously opened the doors of Table 926 for an Urban Art Farm fundraiser.  On Wednesday, July 11th, they will be donating a portion of their sales to support Project Site #0001.  The proceeds raised from this event will support Gloria Muriel’s project (coincidentally) located at 926 Turquoise St.

Table 926′s seasonally driven menu is full of fresh, local, and most importantly, delicious food!  Half off their great selection of craft beers on event night too!  Check out www.table926.com to read more about the restaurant.  Reservations recommended.

Our office next door will be open from 7-10pm, so stop by and say hello and learn more about the project.  We hope to see you there for some great food in support of local public art!

Lets get it Glowin’!

21 Jun

To raise money for Gloria’s project, we are trading $25 donations to the project for a Blue Bird tee-shirt.  Donate through the paypal button below and be sure to tell us your address and shirt size!

Shirts are sea foam heather and 100% cotton.  All donations will be used for Project Site #0001.  We are almost half way to our goal to get this project done!

Thanks for the support!

Getting started at 926 Turquoise

18 Mar

This guy will guard the wall at 926 Turquoise St until Urban Art Farm raises enough money for the final art piece.  The tortoise was drawn on heavy paper and pasted up on the wall with a flour and water mixture.  The final mural will be painted by local artist Gloria Muriel.  She will be painting a version of one of her studio pieces that the owners of 926 Turquoise fell in love with – visit the project page here.

Check out the tortoise going up!

Urban Art Farm + Tap Room

Urban Art Farm Print Shop

East Village Alley

Urban Art Farm prints soon to be on display in PB’s Tap Room!  More interestingly, every month the Tap Room features new local artist(s) for their LAB  event (Local Art + Beer).  Kevin, the man behind this event, is interested in Urban Art Farm organizing a SD public art themed LAB in April or May.  Our idea is to celebrate SD’s public art pieces, and the men and women behind them, by having the artist’s studio work displayed alongside photos of their murals from around San Diego.  Details TBD… read more about the LAB here.
