Getting started at 926 Turquoise

18 Mar

This guy will guard the wall at 926 Turquoise St until Urban Art Farm raises enough money for the final art piece.  The tortoise was drawn on heavy paper and pasted up on the wall with a flour and water mixture.  The final mural will be painted by local artist Gloria Muriel.  She will be painting a version of one of her studio pieces that the owners of 926 Turquoise fell in love with – visit the project page here.

Urban Art Farm + Tap Room

Urban Art Farm Print Shop

East Village Alley

Urban Art Farm prints soon to be on display in PB’s Tap Room!  More interestingly, every month the Tap Room features new local artist(s) for their LAB  event (Local Art + Beer).  Kevin, the man behind this event, is interested in Urban Art Farm organizing a SD public art themed LAB in April or May.  Our idea is to celebrate SD’s public art pieces, and the men and women behind them, by having the artist’s studio work displayed alongside photos of their murals from around San Diego.  Details TBD… read more about the LAB here.

Iph (Josh Alcala) and Chronic Tattoo

Iph working on the finishing touches

Josh Alcala goes by the name Iph and he is just completing a new piece on Chronic Tattoo in PB.  Josh, like a lot of street artists, started young doing illegal graffiti and has since then expanded his work to include prints, digital graphics, logos, street art, and some canvas work.  Once he presented his skill and ability to Chronic Tattoo, they let him loose to paint a mural based on a rendition of the classic I [Heart] Mom tattoo, “I [Heart] Chronic Tattoo.” Read more…

Seedless Storefront - Caleb Aero (2008 - 2012)

Time for the new year and time for some new art!  Caleb Aero has painted many walls in Ocean Beach: Apogee’s Storefront, the alley side of the Barbecue House, and, until now, the storefront of Seedless.  His ‘green girl’ has decorated the Bacon Street wall since 2008 and Seedless is ready for a new piece.

Ryan Preece, Zoke, has just begun the new piece over the old mural.  He has been working with Seedless since 2003 when he helped with some print work.  More recently, he has painted the side of the their van and the ’Grow Yer Mind‘ mural by Seedless’s on-site skatepark.  An Ocean Beach/Point Loma local , he has also collaborated on the storefront of Portulgalia with Pres.   Read More…

Inspiration + Direction for Project Site #0001

Linda and Lyle have selected a direction for the mural on 926 Turquoise St 92109.  They would like local artist Gloria Muriel to paint her blue bird character in a simple, earth-tone interior setting.  The concept image to the left is one of Gloria’s acrylic paintings on canvas, digitally overlaid onto the wall of Project Site #0001.  Gloria’s original painting is called “Blue Bird Waiting for Hope,” and it was one of Lyle and Linda’s favorite pieces.  We are going to work with everyone involved to determine the budget, schedule and logistics for our pilot project!  Read more…
